Synopsis
In 1942, as the Pacific War descends into chaos, U.S. Marines struggle to hold the island of Guadalcanal under relentless Japanese fire. Amidst this devastation, Navy Chaplain Father Frederic Gehring stumbles upon the only survivor of a massacre—a six-year-old girl, brutally wounded and barely alive.
When ordered to abandon her, Gehring instead chooses divine duty. Knowing that by saving her, he is saving God’s precious little one, he defies military command. For him, this war is about more than battles—it’s about saving every individual soul from the evil forces of war. That is why he is a priest: to be a servant of the Lord in blessing those about to die.
Gehring shelters the child, named Patsy Li, through bombings, foxholes, and miraculous survivals. Through each harrowing event, she becomes a beacon of faith for the Marines around her. Years later, her real mother finds her, and through spiritual reconciliation led by Gehring, mother and child reunite in one of the most moving final chapters of any war story ever told.

The Book Behind the Film
This film is inspired by Miraculous, the true story written by Robert Thomas Fertig.
Set during World War II, Miraculous follows Father Fred Gehring—a Vincentian missionary known as the “Padre of Guadalcanal”—and a six-year-old girl named Patsy Li, who miraculously survived abandonment in the jungles of Guadalcanal. Their lives became forever intertwined in an extraordinary journey of survival, faith, and purpose.
Based on meticulous research and interviews—including direct conversations with Patsy Li herself—this book reveals untold stories of divine intervention and heroic compassion amid the chaos of war.
